Jordan's dam reserve at 85.6mcm so far-Water ministry

Ammon News - The overall water storage in the Kingdom's dams has so far reached 85. 660 million cubic metres (mcm), filling 30, 51 per cent of the total capacity of 280.760 mcm, the Water Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

According to the ministry statement, this water storage is similar to last year's related to dams used for irrigation purposes.

The ministry noted the water quantities stored in King Talal Dam amounted to about 44mcm, with a storage capacity of 65.5%, while Wadi Al-Arab Dam storage amounted to 8mcm at 48%.

Sharhabil bin Hasna Dam (Zaqlab) - Jordan Valley)'s storage is now at 1.7mcm at 43.4%, whereas Kufranja Dam's reserve is 3.2mcm at 41.4%. In addition, Shuaib Dam's capacity reached 1.25mcm at 100% and Al Kafrin Dam is 6.5mcm at 76.7%, the statement added.

The ministry noted to the low storage in dams used for drinking and irrigation purposes, namely Al-Wehda Dam, which has so far reached a storage capacity of 15.2% and Mujib Dam's reserve hit 3.3%, while storage in Wala Dam reached 13.6%.

As for the southern dams used for irrigation and industrial uses, the storage capacity is still "very low, " which reached less than 1% in Tannour Dam, while Karak and Lajjun dams have stored about 12% each.
