Ammon News - The government's mitigating measures to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic contributed to an increase in the number of tourists and visitors to the Kingdom since the beginning of this March, official data showed.

According to the figurers, hotel occupancy rates in the capital, archeological site of Petra and port city of Aqaba rose "relatively," during the first period spanning from March 9-14, compared to the second period running from March 1-18.

During this comparison period, the occupancy rate in the capital's hotels increased from 43 to 75 percent, while Petra saw a rise from from 18 to 66 percent, and in Aqaba jumped from 50 to 53 percent. Whereas, the Dead Sea' hotels were occupied by 54% and 49%, respectively during the first and second periods.

The figures revealed that the occupancy hotel rates in the capital, the Dead Sea, Petra and Aqaba during the period of last February 22-28 stood at 21%, 36%, 13%, and 28%, respectively.

In addition, the data showed that the rate of daily entry to Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) increased during March 1-18 by 8,600 passengers, compared to March 9-14 period, with a number of arrivals at 7,700.

The data also indicated that the rate of daily entry into the Kingdom from Al Omari Border Crossing rose during March 1-18, reaching 6,500 passengers, compared to 3,000 during March 9-14, especially as the procedures were eased and the PCR tests required to enter Jordan were canceled.

Meanwhile, the average daily entry into the Kingdom from Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) during last February 22-28 reached 6,400 passengers, and 2,100 arrivals from Al Omari Border Crossing during the same period, the data revealed.
