Ammon News - The Senate House on Tuesday returned a draft political parties law to the Lower House, rejecting some amendments and introducing others to key articles of the bill, which was passed by the deputies last week.
The Senate turned down an amendment by the Lower House reducing the proportion of youth (18-35 years) and women membership in a party from 20 per cent, as proposed by the government, to 10 per cent.
Also, the senators amended an article on the ratio of attendance at a party's constituent conference, replacing the word "third" with "majority", if such a conference were to be legally sound.
Moreover, the Senate rejected the deputies' decision to extend the deadline for existing parties to realign their legal status with the new legislation to 18 months, instead of one year as proposed by the government in the original text.
