Ammon News - Supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual international campaign to increase attention and awareness about early detection of breast cancer, Jordanians take the time and get involved each in their own way.

Gearing towards elevating awareness about breast cancer and early screening, HRH Princess Ghida Talal, chairperson of the King Hussein Cancer Foundation (KHCF) and Centre (KHCC), launched the sixth Arab Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign under the title “Tsawarti”, which translates in English as “did you have your breast cancer screening”.

“We have several awareness raising events that we will be planning throughout the month,” said Nesreen Saoud, an employee at a health centre, said on Saturday.

Saoud added that breast cancer stories would be shared by survivors with the centre’s members, with the aim to promote mammograms as the best tool for early detection of breast cancer, as well as educate them about everything related to breast cancer.

Noor Al Manaseer, educator and owner of a study centre, said that all of the staff will be wearing the pink ribbon which is associated with the Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

“I will start raising funds for breast cancer awareness and treatments,” Manaseer noted.

Sereen Alami, a young Jordanian student, said that “young Jordanians are sharing the most popular hashtags connected to breast cancer such as #breastcancerawarnessmonth and #pinkOctober.

“This is our own way of spreading awareness,” Alami said.

“Each and every woman captures her most important moments in her life with pictures. Mammograms yet remain the images that help her save her life to continue documenting those moments,” according to the Jordan Breast Cancer Programme (JBCP).

The JBCP also showed that screening tests (Mammograms) are the most effective method for early detection of breast cancer.
