"Tobacco case" witness detained for perjury

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - State Security Court (SSC) President, Judge Col. Ali Mubaydeen, ordered a witness in the "tobacco case" 15 days in prison for lying under oath.

The SSC Tuesday heard the testimonies of four prosecution witnesses, and adjourned the hearings to Wednesday.

The trial began on March 12, and has so far heard the testimonies of 51 of the 141 prosecution witnesses.

Twenty-nine defendants are involved in the case, including six fugitives, and 24 companies, including 22 owned or registered with or represented by 22 of the defendants, and two companies registered with two public prosecution witnesses.

The case includes 136 affidavits on the 21 charges against the defendants, of those were 8 felonies and 13 misdemeanors.
