Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Prime Minister Omar Razzaz on Monday emphasized the key contribution of local think tanks and policy institutions in analyzing and providing solutions to social, political and economic crises and phenomena and helping decision-makers handle such issues efficiently.

The prime minister told a meeting with a number of thought leaders and directors of research institutions and centers that the government, at various executive levels, needs the role of research institutions and centers to prepare studies and surveys that help in making decisions, or assessing existing decisions and their feasibility.

He said the government has set a program of priorities linked to a timeframe and performance indicators to be monitored for accountability.

The meeting, which was attended by a number of ministers, reviewed a number of issues of national affairs, especially the ongoing teachers strike, and the resulting disruption of the educational process, and harm done to the right of students to education.

In this context, Razzaz said there are no easy or immediate solutions to the strike, adding that the government remains committed to dialogue as the only way to address the teachers' demands and end the strike, now in its third week.

The prime minister said the government understands the financial hardships experienced by the citizens but everyone should be aware of sluggish growth rates and budget deficit. He urged the Jordanian Teachers Association to shoulder its responsibility towards the students, saying "the status quo is not sustainable."
