Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II on Wednesday affirmed that Jordan will continue, in its capacity as President of the current session of the Arab Summit and stemming from the historic Hashemite custodianship over Muslim and Christian holy places in Jerusalem, to work closely with the various regional and international parties to advance the peace process and support the efforts of the Palestinian brothers to realize their hopes, protect Muslim and Christian sanctities in Jerusalem and stand up against any attempts to change the historical and legal status in the holy city.

In a letter to Chair of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (CEIRPP), Ambassador Fode Seck, on the occasion of the Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, which falls on 29 November each year, His Majesty emphasized that Arab leaders affirmed in their summit meeting in Amman in March earlier this year that peace remains a strategic choice.

He added that the summit came out with a message of peace waiting to be met by Israel with genuine intention and desire to achieve a just, comprehensive and lasting peace based on the two-state solution and the Arab Peace Initiative, which provides the most comprehensive and realistic solution and realizes the Palestinian people's legitimate aspirations of an independent and sovereign state on the borders of 4 June 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital.

"Despite the enormous challenges we have seen this year and the stalemate in the peace process, we must underline and commend the U.S. administration's serious commitment to pushing the peace process forward as well as the Palestinian reconciliation agreement and its importance in strengthening Palestinian unity and advancing peacemaking efforts", His Majesty said in the letter.

His Majesty praised the important measures taken by the CEIRPP, including the various events, conferences and meetings it held in order to enable the Palestinian people to exercise their rights and uphold their just cause in all forums.
