Jordan hosts anti-Daesh coalition political directors meeting

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Jordan on Wednesday hosted a meeting of the political directors of the "Small Group of the Global Coalition against Daesh" in coordination with the United States of America. In an inaugural address, Ambassador Nawaf Al-Tal, Advisor to the Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs, welcomed the participants and said Jordan hosted a series of international coalition meetings during the past few days in a sign of the Kingdom's firm commitment to working with the international community to defeat the terrorist organization.

Al-Tal gave a presentation about military operations in Iraq and Syria, the liberation of about 6.6 million Iraqis and Syria who were in terrorist organization's grip and victories achieved by the coalition against the organization in the cyberspace.

Al-Tal pointed out that a security effort supported by projects aimed at restoring stability in liberated areas must be done now, stressing the importance of addressing the reasons that led to the emergence of Daesh. He emphasized the importance of finding sustainable political solutions to current conflicts in the region.

In turn, U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter Daesh, Brett H. McGurk, thanked Jordan for hosting the coalition's meetings and its role in the fight against terrorism. He highlighted the latest military developments in Syria and Iraq, noting that the terrorist Daesh group lost about 95 percent of the territory it controlled in Iraq and Syria.

McGurk referred to the coalition's efforts to stop the flow of foreign terrorist fighters and stop terrorist financing. He stressed the need to continue projects to support stability in liberated areas in Iraq and Syria, urging the international community to provide more assistance in this regard.
