India provides $2 million for Syrian refugees

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Imad Fakhoury, and India's Ambassador to Jordan, Shubhdarshini Tripathi, on Wednesday, signed an agreement, under which the Indian government will provide $2 million, to provide in the necessary humanitarian to Syrian refugees and host communities.
This support will be directed according to the needs and priorities included in the Jordan Response Plan (JRP) to the Syrian crisis, in consultation with the Indian side over the next few weeks.
In a statement after the signing ceremony, Fakhoury said: "This support comes within the mutual friendship and understanding and in line with the London Conference".
The minister commended the international community's role in supporting Jordan and financing the JRP, as the size of funding this plan has secured remains at 49 percent of total needs during 2016.
He also praised the Indian government's quick response to provide support to alleviate the burden of hosting Syrian refugees, as well as supporting host communities and Syrian refugees in such difficult times.
