Lawmakers endorse 46 articles of new elections law

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Lower House of Parliament debated and endorsed 46 articles out of 68 articles that make up a new elections law hoped to enhance political life and encourage broader participation in the decision-making process.

According to the new bill, a person willing to run for the house membership shall be Jordanian since at least 10 years and holds no foreign citizenship. He/she must be 30-year-old by the day of voting and should have not been declared bankrupt or have ever served a prison sentence of more than one year for a non-political crime.

The new law requires candidates who serve in government jobs to tender their resignations at least 60 days prior to the voting day. A candidate should abide by the provisions of the constitution, respect and uphold the rule of law, preserve national unity and security among other conditions.
