Foreign Minister, Icelandic counterpart hold talks

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Nasser Judeh on Thursday met with his Icelandic counterpart Gunnar Bragi Sveinsson and discussed bilateral ties and the latest developments and challenges in the region.

Talks also touched on ways to address these challenges.

On bilateral ties, Judeh reiterated Jordan's keenness to cement its ties with Iceland in various domains, while noting the available cooperation opportunities in the economic, trade and renewable energy domains.

Meanwhile, the two ministers discussed the latest developments in Palestine, where Judeh underscored the need to relaunch serious and effective negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis, according to a clear timeframe. Such talks, he added, should lead to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on Arab peace initiative and international terms of reference.

They also discussed Syria and efforts to resolve the Syrian crisis. In this regard, Judeh reiterated Jordan's firm stance that calls to finding a political solution to the Syrian crisis, which preserves the security and safety of the Arab nation as well as its territorial unity.

Judeh and Sveinsson also discussed the international efforts to fight terrorism and extremism, which have escalated to becoming global threats. They also reviewed the latest developments in regional countries, like Yemen, Libya and Iraq.

The Icelandic minister, on his part, said his country was keen to develop its ties with Jordan in various domains.
