Ammon News - AMMONNEWS -Authorities arrested a local online journalist on Monday for publishing statements alleging corruption in the country's Royal Court.
Police arrested Jamal Muhataseb, owner of Jordanian news website 'Jerasanews.com' for an article alleging Royal Court intervention behind Parliament's recent refusal to try a former minister for alleged corruption in the "Decent House for Decent Living" project.
Authorities sent Muhataseb, who also chief editor of the "Marra" weekly newspaper, to the military State Security Court (SSC), where he faces charges of disseminating "anti-regime sentiment,".
Some 50 journalists staged a sit-in Monday evening at the Jordan Press Association headquarters in Amman, demanding Muhataseb's "immediate release" and condemning his being sent to the military tribunal.
The military tribunal's prosecutor general ordered the web journalist to be detained for 14 days over an article published on the site under the headline "MP claims Royal Directives behind refusal to try [former public housing minister] Sahel Majali in Decent Housing case."
