Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Subhi Yousef Alawneh, who was injured in the rocket blast that hit Aqaba early Monday morning, died later in the afternoon on Monday from wounds he sustained as a result of the blast that struck in the southern Red Sea port city of Aqaba, a medical source told 'Ammon News.'

A GRAD rocket had slammed into a road in Aqaba in front of the Intercontinental Hotel, injuring 5 people. Alawneh's injuries were critical and he was admitted into the ICU at Princess Haya Military Hospital before succumbing to his wounds.

Minister of State for Media Affairs and Communications Ali Al Ayed said that Subhi Alawneh, a 51 year old taxi-driver, had died at the military-run Princess Haya hospital in Aqaba.

The blast burnt two vehicles and led to minor material damage.

Medical sources confirmed that four of the Jordanian citizens injured by the GRAD rocket that slammed into the southern Red Sea port city of Aqaba Monday morning (August 2) were transferred to princess Haya Military Hospital.

The medical sources confirmed in statements to 'Ammon News' that three of patients are in stable condition, while the fourth had succumbed to his wounds and died in the ICU.

The injured are:

Muhammad Ibrahim Raja Al Safasfa - Stable Condition
Jasser Salam Al Bkour - Stable Condition
Ahmad Mahmoud Oweidat - Stable Condition

The sources added that a fifth person, Fadi Muhammad Al Batm, was also injured in the blast and was taken to Al Hadith private Hospital and is in good condition.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Nayef Al Qadi and Minister of Health Nayef al Fayez arrived in Aqaba to check on the injured.

** Director General of the Public Security Directorate (PSD) Major General Hussein Hazza Majali is heading a meeting at the Aqaba Governorate Hall with Director of the Civil Defense Directorate (CDD) Major General Abdullah Hamadneh and Aqaba Governor Zayd Zreiqat and security chiefs in the city to investigate the incident.

Journalists have voiced protest at security personnel denying them access to cover the incident and called on the PSD Press office to facilitate further information.

A GRAD missile fell in the southern Jordanian port city of Aqaba Monday morning, injuring four people, Minister of State for Media Affairs and Communications Ali Al Ayed said.

Al Ayed said in statements to 'Ammon News' that the missile fell at 7:45 AM on Monday, injuring four citizens, three o which are in stable condition and the fourth is in critical condition.

He noted that security forces are carrying out investigations to find the source of the rocket attack.

Meanwhile, a security official from the Public Security Directorate (PSD) denied in statements to 'Ammon News' reports published earlier by 'Yedioth Ahronoth' on its electronic website, Ynetnews, that five Jordanians were killed in the blast, noting that the blast led to five injuries, 4 were rushed to Princess Haya Military Hospital in Aqaba and another to a private hospital.

The security official said that two of the injured are taxi drivers, and 2 others work in the Intercontinental Hotel. Later reports confirmed that a fifth person was hit with shrapnel in his legs and was rushed to Al Hadith Hospital.

The rocket fell at nearly 7:40 AM, the official told 'Ammon News', adding that it fell on a taxi cab and a vehicle belonging to a private bank parked in front of the Intercontinental Hotel in Aqaba causing flames to erupt and the injury of a number of people who were rushed to the nearby hospital, the official told 'Ammon News.'

He did not disclose whether the injuries were caused by the missile or the cars burning in flames.

The official did not give further details, but noted that the incident is similar to the rockets incident that occurred on April 22 of this year.
