Ammon News - The Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA), in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), launched the Petra Tourism Strategic Plan 2024-2033 on Sunday as part of a JICA-PDTRA joint project.
The plan includes ways to enhance the tourism sector's competitiveness, the regional situation and its impact on the national tourism sector, methods to develop mechanisms for attracting tourists, extending their stay in Petra, and developing tourism facilities to attract more tourists.
Speaking in front of Petra's famous archaeological site, Al-Khazneh , PDTRA Chief Commissioner, Faris Briezat, said that the plan aims to develop mechanisms to expand and enhance the scope of tourism services in line with the historical significance and status of Petra on the global tourism map, benefiting local communities, enhancing Petra's global competitiveness, and preserving the archaeological site as a World Heritage site.
Briezat mentioned that the plan includes multiple aspects to enhance and develop the tourism landscape in the region, such as tourism promotion and marketing, hotel services, creating new tourism offerings that contribute to extending the stay of tourists in Petra, green energy transformation, and uplifting and developing local communities and their relationship with visitors.
He pointed out the importance of developing the tourism product in Petra, explaining that this plan will determine the tourism direction for the region, in addition to identifying the available tourism offerings and experiences, opportunities, development priorities, and the working mechanism to implement those priorities.
The JICA-PDTRA cooperation has been ongoing for many years after the Japanese agency funded the "Petra Museum" project, which was inaugurated in 2016, with the aim of developing Petra's tourism offering.
