Labor Ministry issues 2,141 citations, 2,949 warnings to establishments in 6 months

Ammon News - The Ministry of Labor’s Central Inspection Directorate released its mid-year report for 2024, highlighting extensive inspection activities and enforcement measures.

Haitham Najdawi, Director of the Inspection Directorate, stated that inspection teams visited 13,922 establishments in the first half of 2024. The Ministry also conducted 10 targeted inspection campaigns across various economic sectors.

Najdawi reported that inspectors issued 2,141 citations and 2,949 warnings to establishments failing to comply with the Labor Law and associated regulations.

Through the Ministry’s electronic platform "Hemaya," 4,498 labor complaints were received. Of these, 1,850 were resolved, securing labor rights for the complainants, while 305 complaints remain under investigation.

Additionally, 602 citations were issued to non-compliant establishments, and 1,741 complaints were referred to the judiciary due to jurisdictional limitations.

In efforts to enforce occupational safety and health standards, inspection teams conducted 6,283 visits, mostly focused on raising awareness about new safety regulations and guidelines.

Addressing child labor, Najdawi reported that 132 cases were identified. The Ministry issued 90 citations and 85 warnings to offending establishments.

The Ministry also received 27 reports through its child labor reporting link. Furthermore, the Child Labor Reduction and Institutional Nurseries Inspection Department held awareness sessions to combat child labor.

Regarding nurseries for employees' children, inspection teams visited 73 establishments, issuing 21 citations and 39 warnings for non-compliance with relevant regulations.

On regulating non-Jordanian workers, Najdawi noted that 808 deportation orders were issued in the first half of the year for labor law violations.
