Jordan grants nearly 27k work permits to Syrian refugees since beginning of 2024

Ammon News - A report by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) revealed that Jordan granted 27,653 work permits to Syrian refugees, from the beginning of 2024 until the end of last June.

Jordan granted 458,135 work permits to Syrian refugees from 2016 until the end of last June of 2024, a UNHCR report indicated.

Since 2016, Syrian refugees have allowed to work in several economics sectors in the Kingdom, after the international community pledged to provide financing and facilitate trade more broadly under the "Jordan Agreement", an initiative to improve access to education and legal work for Syrians who were forced to flee their homes.

The government says; Jordan has hosted nearly 1,350,000 refugees since the beginning of the Syrian crisis, and the number of refugee births since 2011 until the end of last June reached about 233,000 Syrian births, making Jordan the largest country hosting refugees compared to its population.
