Ammon News - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs, Ayman Safadi, Praised on Tuesday the support provided by Slovenia to the UNRWA, saying that UNRWA is a 'lifeline' for the Palestinian people, especially in these hard times.
During a press conference with his Slovenian counterpart, Tanja Fajon, Safadi added that every dollar taken from UNRWA is a piece of bread stolen from a starving child, stressing that Jordan's position is very clear to stop this massacre and reach a permanent ceasefire immediately.
Safadi also stressed that the scale of destruction and humanitarian catastrophe that is still unfolding in Gaza exceeds capacity to absorb, with the martyrdom of 30,000 innocent Palestinians, 70% of them are women and children.
More than 17,000 Palestinian children have become orphans due to this war in Gaza, Safadi pointed, explaining that people in Gaza are now not only dying from bombing, but they are also dying from hanger, as 500,000 people in Gaza live at the highest level of famine, which is the highest number anywhere in the world.
This war will not bring security to the Israelis and the countries of the region, and the threat of escalation becomes more dangerous as the holy month of Ramadan approaches, he added, noting that if this aggression continues during the month of Ramadan, the chances of regional escalation will actually double, especially if the situation erupts in the West Bank.
The two-state solution is the only solution that will witness the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state along the lines of June 4, 1967, with occupied Jerusalem as its capital, the minister stated.
Safadi pointed out that the resolutions of the United Nations Council and the rulings of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) that called for the immediate introduction of humanitarian aid to people suffering from hunger had not been implemented.
The minister noted that Jordan and Slovenia have had diplomatic relations for 31 years, which have witnessed good cooperation, saying that: "We are working to find more prospects for further cooperation in areas of mutual cooperation in the fields of economic, trade, tourism, and cultural exchange.
The memorandum of understanding signed between Jordan and Slovenia on Tuesday will enable the two countries to conduct an organized consultation process that will allow identifying areas in which more joint cooperation can be achieved, he added.
Safadi also thanked Slovenia’s position that stands on the side of justice, on the side of international law, and on the side of the Palestinian people in their right to live in freedom and dignity and to recognize their right to self-determination.
