Health Ministry to ban 110 carcinogenic substances from import and circulation

Ammon News - Ministry of Health circulated to commercial and industrial entities draft updated lists of chemical substances that are prohibited from being imported and traded in their primary state or as part of a mixture or products for health-related reasons.
According to the lists, which were seen by Ammon News Agency, one of them included 110 chemicals that are carcinogenic, cause mutations in genes, and are toxic to reproduction.
The circular also specified 44 chemicals that are prohibited from being imported and traded in their raw state or as part of a mixture or products except under specific requirements that depend on the nature of use, including some common asbestos fibers, and materials used in the manufacture of paints in high concentrations, or in the manufacture of children’s toys.
The draft lists allowed the circulation of some banned chemicals, but specifying their uses, such as industrial purposes, laboratories and research centers, electrical and electronic industries, and professional purposes.
It also prohibited the sale or offering of textile products, such as textile clothing and linens, that contain listed chemical substances in the local market.
The circular called on the concerned authorities to provide the Ministry of Health with any comments they have regarding the updated list no later than the end of February, in preparation for discussing it in a meeting that will be held later in this regard.
