Ammon News - Mayor of Greater Mafraq Municipality (GMM), Nasser al-Din Ako Rsheidh, said dozens of electricity theft cases illegally using power from the municipality's grid were seized.
In a press statement on Saturday, he said these cases were detected by by the municipality's staff operating on installing and maintaining lighting units in the municipality's regions.
These actions, he noted, represent an illegal assault on the municipality's lighting network and constitutes a financial burden on its budget and a "grave" danger on citizens' lives.
To fight this phenomenon, he announced an ad hoc committee will be formed to organize intensive campaigns to find out any attacks on the city's power network and take the necessary measures against perpetrators.
He also called on citizens and owners of commercial, industrial and agricultural businesses to dodge illegal power exploitation, adding that all necessary legal measures will be taken against grid attackers.
For his part, head of the municipality's lighting department, Yousef Elimat, said these violations can't be committed by ordinary citizens, but rather carried out by skilled technical people with equipment, calling on the city's people to report any cases.
