Jordan amongst first to implement De-Institutionalisation for disabled: Minister

Ammon News - Minister of Social Development (MoSD) Wafaa Bani Mustafa Tuesday said Jordan was amongst the first Arab countries to implement DeIindtitutionalisation (De-I) for persons with disabilities and undertake the process of community-based care.
During the opening of the Al-Amal Centre for Special Education in Salt, Al-Salt Islamic Charity Association, Bani Mustafa said, "The Ministry [of Social Development] is now in the process of reviewing all regulating legislation in this regard, including the De-Institutionalisation bylaw, so that we can provide this dear group with all services in the best way."
She noted that the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act of 2017 was part of implementing the Ministry's strategy regarding De-I and encouraging the construction and development of inclusive, community day-care centres to break the isolation of persons with disabilities.
The head of the Al-Salt Islamic Charity Association, Muhammad Shomali, talked about said the Association serves 1,700 male and female students and employs about 170 employees, noting that its ultimate goal is to serve the local community, create educational leaders and focus on promoting distinguished and creative students.
