Finance minister delivers 2023 budget speech on Monday

Ammon News - Finance Minister Muhammad Ississ will deliver Monday, before the House of Representatives, the general budget speech for the fiscal year 2023, amid government optimism about achieving positive results that will reduce the fiscal deficit, coinciding with reform programs to gradually move away from the risks caused by the Corona pandemic and the Russian-Ukrainian war.

The 2023 budget estimates the volume of spending at 11.4 billion dinars, with a deficit of 2.6 billion dinars before grants, and revenues at about 9.6 billion dinars, with GDP expected to grow by 2.7 %to reach 36.9 billion dinars, and an inflation rate of 3.8 %.

The government had confirmed that it would not approve any new taxes or increase over old taxes during the current year.

The 2023 budget allocated about 355 million dinars to start implementing the vision of economic modernization, which aims to provide one million job opportunities during the next ten years, with an investment value of 41 billion dinars, in addition to allocating 40 million dinars to implement the requirements of the public sector modernization roadmap (2022-2033).

The 2023 budget is the first after approving the constitutional amendments that required presenting one general budget law with two chapters, one of which is for the 25 government units, whose total expected revenues reach 671 million dinars, a decrease of 283 million dinars from 2022 due to the removal of the central bank’s budget from their budgets, while Government units' expenditures are estimated at 1.467 billion dinars, with a deficit of 795 million dinars.
