624,000 cm3 of rainwater stored by dams in past 24 hours

Ammon News - The Ministry of Water and Irrigation said Saturday that 624,500 cubic meters of water was stored in dams across the Kingdom after downpours in the past 24 hours.

The ministry said in a statement that the quantities were distributed as: Al-Wehda dam, 104,000, Wadi Al-Arab 9,000, Zeqlab 13,900, Kufranja 44,800, King Talal 337,800, Wadi Shuaib 35,400 and Kafrein 78,600 cubic meters.

However, it added that the southern dams of Zarqa, Ma'in, Wala, Mujib, Tanour, Lajun and Karak did not record any new amounts, adding that the storage rate in the dams is currently 27,150 million cubic meters, with a storage rate of 9.7 percent of the total dams' capacity of 280,759 million cubic meters.

The volume of rain that fell since the start of the season was about 1,151 billion cubic meters of the average annual rate, or 14.1 percent of the annual rate of 8.1 billion cubic meters, and that the highest rainfall was recorded in Ajloun in the past 24 hours, 33.8 mm, it said.

The ministry urged the public to collect rainwater for various uses as part of the national strategy to achieve water security, and not dump waste into streams or connect gutters to sewers.
