Ammon News - Former Prime Minister Dr. Omar Razzaz emphasized the importance of holding officials accountable, meaning that citizens have the opportunity to question those responsible for their performance and the performance of their affiliated institutions in all sectors and at all levels, as an embodiment of truly active citizenship and accountable governments.

Razzaz said during a discussion session organized by the Politics and Society Institute (PSI) entitled “Youth and the Paths of Modernization: Searching for a Horizon” that the phenomenon that Jordanians know closely, which is the multiplicity of plans and weak implementation, is the result of weak accountability tools, direct through the citizen and indirect through the Parliament.

Razzaz and a group of youth and activists, in the presence of the Honorary President of the PSI, Sharif Shakir bin Zaid and the Minister of Education, Dr. Azmi Mohafaza and a number of members of the Council of Trustees, attended the session.

He stressed that Jordan has passed the first stage, which is setting goals and a roadmap for the outcomes of the tripartite reform process and approving the parties and elections laws and some other constitutional amendments, pointing out the need for this stage to proceed gradually and cumulatively so as not to be subject to the same experience that fragile democracies in the world went through.

He said that Jordan today faces important upcoming events, after activating the participation of parties in political life, after the adoption of legislation regulating political action.

Razzaz pointed out the importance of citizen participation in parties and parliamentary elections, stressing the need to focus also on participation at the municipal and governorate levels, given that they are closest to the citizen and his daily issues.

Razzaz concluded his speech by emphasizing the need for participation to be a goal in itself and not just a means, and the need to enforce the law and strengthen national identity and protect it from hate speech.
