Ammon News - Police have seized a large cache of narcotics, including a half-ton of hashish and nearly two million narcotic pills, after a raid on a drug smugglers' and dealers' hideout in the Al-Hallabat region, east, degenerated into a fierce gunfight and a high-speed pursuit.

A spokesman for the Public Security Directorate (PSD) stated that a security force of anti-narcotics agents and police commandos raided a farm in the Al-Hallabat area, 25 kilometers northeast of Zarqa Governorate, after receiving intelligence that a group of drug dealers and smugglers were hiding there to evade a security campaign already underway in the Al-Ruwaished area, located in the far east of the kingdom.

As soon as the security force arrived on the scene, the smugglers attempted to flee and load narcotics into their vehicles, but they were pursued and the rules of engagement were applied after they fired shots at the police agents, the spokesman added.

After a gunfight and a high-speed pursuit, the security force captured three of the suspects, injuring two of them, one with a bullet and the other as a result of his vehicle being damaged during the chase, while none of the officers were injured.

When the seized vehicles were searched, a large haul of narcotics was found, including half a ton of hashish and nearly two million narcotic pills, as well as an automatic firearm, according to the spokesman.

The PSD reaffirmed its commitment to the ongoing qualitative security crackdown on drug dealers and pushers, promising to go after them wherever they may be if they do not immediately cease their criminal operations and turn themselves in.
