Ammon News - Jordan continues to bake in a blazing heat wave that pushed mercury levels higher than annual average by about 4 Celsius degrees, reaching 37 in Amman, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said in its forecast for Wednesday.
Cooler weather is forecast at night as temperatures slide to around 21 degrees in the Capital, the JMD added, noting that clouds at various altitudes are also expected to appear in some areas with a chance for intermittent showers in limited parts of the southern region.
The southernmost Red Sea port of Aqaba and the Jordan Valley will continue to reel under sweltering weather as daytime temperatures will range between 41 and 42 degrees.
The department urged the public to steer clear of direct exposure to sunlight in the afternoon, and to remove flammable materials from their vehicles, warning of leaving children inside closed vehicles.
On Thursday, similar scorching weather will persist nationwide, with clouds at medium and high altitudes in the southern and eastern parts of the Kingdom, the forecasters predicted.
Mercury levels will start to dip few degrees on Friday, but it will remain hot in much of the country, the JMD further said.
