Irbid governor, Chinese envoy talk investment cooperation

Ammon News - Chinese Ambassador to Jordan, Chen Chuandong, Tuesday discussed in Irbid ways to develop prospects for cooperation with economic, educational and youth institutions and the available investment opportunities.

Ambassador Chuandong started his tour in Irbid with a meeting with the governor of Irbid, Radwan Atoum, who explained the investment and service reality in the northern governorate and the investment opportunities available in it in many industrial and commercial fields.

Atoum noted that Irbid, with a population of two million Jordanians, was one of Jordan's most impacted by the Syrian refugee crisis, as it is home to more than 400,000 Syrian refugees, explaining that the large refugee population puts pressure on the governorate's infrastructure and the quality of public services.

He added that the governorate needs international support to raise the response to the refugee crisis and provide necessary services, especially in water, education, environment, health and roads.

He said that Irbid is looking forward to increasing Chinese investments, reflecting the successful Chinese experience in the industrial sector and benefiting from its expertise.

Chuandong, in turn, noted the depth of Jordan-China ties, praising Jordan's role as a partner in contributing to regional and international peace and stability. He also stressed the need to support Jordan's efforts to bear the burdens of the Syrian refugee crisis.

He highlighted that Jordan and China share many views on regional issues. He said the visit aims to increase bilateral cooperation, praising the twinning agreements signed by Irbid Municipality Chinese municipalities.

Chuandong also met with the Minister of Youth, Muhammad Nabulsi, as Nabulsi talked about Jordan's partnership with China and how it translates into projects with the establishment of Al-Hassan Sports City as a model for this cooperation.
