Ammon News - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Local Administration, Tawfiq Krishan, stressed the importance of Jordan's 'decentralized' provincial councils, calling on launching partnership to overcome all their obstacles in the past, in accordance with the law provisions.
Speaking at a meeting on Sunday, with councils' heads, Krishan pointed to the ministry's role in coordinating and following-up on the Kingdom's provincial affairs.
As a concrete step in this regard, Krishan announced the ministry will launch a directorate to ensure provision of facilitations and services to help local councils' heads carry out their tasks.
The minister also said periodic joint meetings will be held to check on work progress and take the necessary measures to meet the related needs countrywide.
In addition, Krishan stressed the importance of the councils' role in endorsing and following up on the projects of the governorates' strategic and executive plans.
He also referred to the councils' role to identify the governorates' priorities and needs, adding that no less than 40% of their budgets should be allocated for their development projects to provide job opportunities, in cooperation with the Jordanian private sector.
In an effort to break region-specific limitations, he called for the need to launch cross-governorate projects and take the necessary measures in this regard.
