Ammon News - Senate Speaker Faisal Fayez on Saturday inveighed against the Israeli military operations in Gaza, warning of "major" repercussions that would lead to escalation.

In a press statement, Fayez said, "the Senate confirms that the continuation of the Israeli practices against our defenceless Palestinian people would have major consequences that would increase escalation, tension and violence. Israel must stop these blatant attacks."

He noted that the international community must act to stop the killings committed by the Israeli forces, urging the international community to assume its "moral and legal" responsibilities to stop the Israeli attacks and "crimes."

Fayez said: "We in the Senate affirm our absolute support for all efforts made by His Majesty King Abdullah II in defence of the Palestinian cause and the right of the Palestinian people to freedom and life and His Majesty's firm action against Israeli measures and decisions that target the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital."

He called for a unified Arab front with an active stance to support the Palestinians in countering Israeli "arrogance" and supporting the efforts of the King to that end.

He noted that Israel's continued "aggressive" approach and practices toward the Palestinians would lead the region and the world to more chaos and instability, adding that the two-state solution and resolutions of international legitimacy which enable the Palestinians to realise their rights are the only solution.
