Ammon News - In its first non-ordinary session on Wednesday, the Lower House, headed by its Speaker Abdul Karim Dughmi, began debate of a draft law amending the General Sales Tax Law, in the presence of Prime Minister Dr. Bisher Khasawneh.

During the parliament session, Head of the House Economy and Investment Committee, Khair Abu Sa'ilek, said the bill does not hike nor impose tax rates, but aims to address related loopholes, adding that the entire provisions represent private sector's demands.

On another legislative effort, deputies referred to a joint committee (legal, women and family affairs) the draft Child Rights Law for 2022, after a preliminary reading.

Referral came due to the draft's importance in protecting children and addressing issues related to education, school dropout, kindergartens expansion, health care, and protection from violence, according to a House statement.

Other lawmakers stressed the need to "exercise diligence" in debating the bill's articles and listen to all points of view, in a bid to ensure that religion-based values are not violated, the statement added.
