In a statement on Friday, the center said that it is closely monitoring with the global epidemiological and scientific research centers and in close coordination with national and regional institutions, as well as the World Health Organization for follow-up, monitoring and early detection of any possible infections. Monkeypox is transmitted to humans through close contact with an infected person or animal, or with material contaminated with the virus. It is an endemic disease in Africa and was discovered in 1985.
