The Jordan Armed Forces- Arab army (JAF) was handed over the Borders Control Department's new administrative building for women officers on Monday, after the completion of the project, which was carried out by the International Organisation for Migration (IMO) in Jordan with funding from the Japanese government.

"The border humanitarian management project shows your continuous support for creating a better working environment for female officers, and to raise the level of our readiness to respond to any future humanitarian crises," Borders Control Department Director Brig. Gen. Ahmed Khleifat told a ceremony attended by JAF Assistant for Planning, Organisation and Defence Resources Brig. Gen. Yousef Al-Khatib, Japanese Ambassador Kaoru Shimazaki and IOM Chief of Mission in Jordan Tajma Kurt.

Al-Khatib noted the deep-rooted relations between Jordan and Japan and thanked Tokyo for the grant, which was part of bilateral cooperation and efforts to boost Jordanian humanitarian efforts in the border security field.

Shimazaki said in remarks that the Japanese government was interested in working with the IOM and the Borders Control Administration as a key component of regional stability, commending the efforts of JAF and IOM to accomplish the project.

The head of the IOM mission said that the project compliments the "ongoing successful" cooperation between the international organisation, JAF and the government of Japan to enhance the capacity to deal with public health and respond to cross-border infectious diseases through providing educational sessions to 94 officers on the topics of immigration health and COVID-19 response measures and prevention and control.

The JAF Assistant for Planning, Organisation and Defence Resources and the guests toured facilities at the premises, which include offices and accommodation for female officers, and were briefed on up-to-date technical and tactical specifications used in the project.
