Ammon News - Yemen’s Houthi rebels say the first commercial flight in six years has taken off Monday from the country’s rebel-held capital.

The flight, carrying 137 passengers, is part of the U.N.-brokered, 60-day truce agreement that the internationally recognized government and the Houthi rebels struck last month.

The Yemen Airways flight is bound to Jordan’s capital of Amman. The flight is expected to land at 11:30 am. Another flight is expected to take off from Queen Alia international airport to Sanaa airport at 12:30 pm.

The truce, which went into effect on April 2, is the first nationwide cease-fire in Yemen in six years.

“After great efforts from the Yemeni government, the Arab alliance, the UN envoy and the co-operation of our brothers in Jordan the first flight will be rescheduled on Monday from Sana'a airport,” Yemen’s Foreign Minister Ahmed bin Mubarak said on Twitter yesterday.
