Ammon News - The total area of buildings licensed in the first 3 months of 2022 dropped by 12.7 percent to 1.714 million square meters (msqm) against 1.963msqm in the corresponding period of 2021.

In a quarterly statistical report released on Sunday, the Department of Statistics (DoS) said that the total number of new building licenses issued in the January-March period of the current year decreased by 20.8 percent to 5,335, compared with 6,732 licenses during the same period last year.

The area of buildings licensed for residential purposes declined by 15.8 percent, reaching 1.46msqm, compared with about 1.734msqm during the same period last year.

Conversely, the area of buildings licensed for non-residential purposes picked up by 10.9 percent in the reporting period, standing at 254,000sqm from 229,000sqm in the same period of 2021, the DoS said.

According to the report, the area of buildings licensed for residential purposes accounted for 85.2 percent of the total area of new licensed buildings, while the area of buildings licensed for non-residential purposes constituted 14.8 percent.

The figures also show that 65.7 percent of the area of buildings that were licensed during the three-month period was in the central region, leaving 25.9 and 8.4 percent for the northern and southern regions, respectively.
