His Majesty King Abdullah, accompanied by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, on Wednesday continued the second day of his meetings in the US Congress.
King Abdullah met on Wednesday with the US House of Representatives’ Armed Services Committee, and discussed means of enhancing relations between Jordan and the United States, in addition to the latest regional and international developments.
The meeting covered regional and international efforts to counter terrorism within a holistic approach.
At the meeting, His Majesty stressed Jordan’s keenness on enhancing cooperation with the United States in the military and defence fields.
For their part, US lawmakers commended Jordan’s efforts towards achieving peace in the Middle East.
In addition, they lauded the Kingdom’s role in hosting Syrian refugees, expressing keenness to continue their support for Jordan’s efforts, and its role in promoting stability in the region.
The King also met with the chairman and members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, with His Majesty expressing keenness on further bolstering the strong relations between the two countries across all fields.
The King reaffirmed the need to maintain coordination and consultation between Jordan and the United States on issues of mutual interest, and on promoting security and stability regionally and internationally.
The meeting covered the latest regional and international developments, foremost of which is the Palestinian cause.
The King stressed the need to step up collective efforts toward reaching just and comprehensive peace, on the basis of the two-state solution, guaranteeing the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 4 June 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
For their part, the chairman and members of the committee said they are keen to listen to His Majesty’s views and vision on regional developments, highlighting Jordan’s important role in achieving regional peace and stability, in addition to the Kingdom’s efforts in hosting refugees.
His Majesty also met with the chairman and members of the State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programmes Subcommittee at the House of Representatives.
The meeting covered means of enhancing and expanding cooperation, especially in the fields of economy, development and food security.
The King expressed Jordan’s appreciation of the United States’ continuous support for the implementation of several development projects and programmes.
In addition, His Majesty pointed to the programmes implemented in Jordan, to enhance the economy, ensure growth, and create job opportunities.
Chairman and members of the committee expressed their country’s keenness on continuing its support to Jordan, to enhance the Kingdom’s economic resilience.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan, and Jordan’s Ambassador in Washington Dina Kawar attended the meetings.
