Ammon News - Chairman of the Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC), Khalil Haj Tawfiq, said that supporting the Palestinian economy is a duty and a national interest for all.

Speaking to a meeting with a delegation from the North Hebron Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture on Monday evening, Haj Tawfiq called for exerting more efforts to improve trade and investment relations between Jordan and Palestine and overcome obstacles imposed by the Israeli occupation state.

"Supporting brothers in Palestine aligns with the ongoing royal directives which establish the Kingdom as a real supporter to Palestinian brothers, in light of the deep-rooted and historical ties between the two countries," Haj Tawfiq added.

He stressed that the ACC harnesses all its capabilities to serve the Palestinian economy, and is keen to exert efforts to replace imported products from "Israel" in the Palestinian market with Jordanian products, and this is also a Palestinian desire to enhance trade exchanges with the Kingdom.

He spoke about the ACC's keenness to implement an initiative it had previously proposed to set up a permanent exhibition of Palestinian industries at its headquarters and to inform visiting delegations on products and merchandise to help promote Palestinian products in the world and support their steadfastness.

In turn, Head of the North Hebron Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, Noureddine Jaradat, stressed the importance of the ACC’s initiative to establish a permanent exhibition of Palestinian products at its headquarters to promote and open new markets for Palestinian products, indicating that the Covid-19 pandemic impacts delayed the implementation of this initiative.

Jaradat said that the official meetings held by the private sector with the Palestinian Authority underscore the importance of intensifying efforts to strengthen economic and trade relations with Jordan in light of a tendency to disengage from the economy of the Israeli occupation state, the exports of which to the Palestinian market are estimated at $5 billion annually.

Jaradat, on behalf of the Palestinian private sector, valued His Majesty King Abdullah's great efforts in defending the Palestinian cause and the Hashemite custodianship of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

Attendees, from the Jordanian and Palestinian sides, raised many issues that contribute to strengthening trade relations of the two countries, foremost of which is facilitating the movement of trucks crossing and transporting goods across the King Hussein Bridge, in addition to facilitating the renewal or extension of passports of chamber's members and merchants.
