Finance Minister, Egyptian counterpart discuss cooperation

Ammon News - Minister of Finance, Mohamad Al-Ississ, and his Egyptian counterpart, Mohamed Maait, discussed Monday ways of enhancing bilateral cooperation in the financial, tax and customs sectors.

The meeting addressed joint coordination and exchange of expertise in the areas of government information management systems and tax cooperation, and both ministers agreed on developing an agreement to avoid double taxation signed between Jordan and Egypt.

In the meeting, held at Egyptian Ministry of Finance in Cairo on the sidelines of the 30th session of the Jordanian-Egyptian Joint Higher Committee meetings, the two ministers tackled how both countries could leverage their expertise and the development in the field of e-commerce, through the development of tax control and electronic invoicing systems.

The meeting, attended by Jordan Customs Department (JCD) Director General Maj. Gen. Jalal Qudah, touched on mechanisms of joint cooperation in customs fields, and overcoming challenges and obstacles facing the trade exchange and the flow of goods and inter-trade between Jordan and Egypt.

The two sides discussed ways of bilateral coordination in electronic interconnection and customs issues, in a way that contributes to serving national industries in both countries and alleviating any obstacles they may face, in addition to exchanging information in financial and customs issues, and the expansion of the electronic interconnection system in various financial sectors.

Both ministers also discussed the possibility of reaching a joint cooperation agreement in the financial aspects, and launching an institutional dialogue between the ministries of finance in Jordan and Egypt aimed at following up on financial developments at regional and international levels and their impacts on both countries' economies.
