Ammon News - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs an Expatriates on Tuesday denounced the continued Israeli violations against the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and lodged an official letter of protest demanding the cessation of provocations and respect of the status quo, the sanctity of the holy shrine and the Jordan-run Jerusalem Awqaf Department, Jordan News Agency Petra reported.

Israeli police routinely gave the green light to extremist settlers in large numbers to breach the holy compound under their protection during the Jewish holidays in the month of September, the ministry said in a statement, adding that Israeli police also allowed the diehard settlers to carry out provocative actions that are "rejected and condemned."

The ministry spokesman, Haitham Abu al-Fool, said such provocations are outrageous to all Muslims and constitute a breach of Israel's responsibilities as the occupying power in Jerusalem under international law and international humanitarian law, according to Petra.

Al Aqsa Mosque, with its total area of 144 dunums, is a place of worship for Muslims only, noting that the Jordan-run Jerusalem Awqaf and Aqsa Affairs Department is the sole authority to supervise its affairs and manage entries, he said.
