Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission chief Haitham Misto said Tuesday that the resumption of air travel at the Queen Alia International Airport hinges on the developments in the global epidemiological situation, noting that August 18 may not be the date to restart regular flights.

He said in an interview with Petra that the deterioration in the global epidemiological situation required delaying the resumption of air travel for travelers and tourists, stressing that "Jordan constantly updates all the variables in the epidemiological situation and the determinants of travel."

Misto said that the government recently introduced the mandatory institutional quarantine for travelers from "green" countries for a period of 7 days plus 7 days of isolation at home, while keeping in place the two-week quarantine time for travelers from non-green destinations.

Mesto stressed that there are no restrictions on the departure of Jordanians and other nationals, saying that they can leave the Kingdom whenever airlines make flights available, adding that the government's priority is currently providing Royal Jordanian flights for the return of Jordanians from world cities and the Gulf Arab states.

He said that the fifth phase of the repatriation of Jordanians abroad will start on Aug. 15.

According to Misto, Queen Alia International Airport has handled about 2,500 flights since air travel restrictions were imposed on March 17 until early August.
