HepA vaccine added to national immunization program

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Hepatitis A (HepA) vaccine is now included in the national immunization program, Minister of Health Sa’ed Jabir announced on Wednesday.

The minister made the announcement at a northern Amman clinic where a ceremony was held to mark the introduction of the vaccine.

"The introduction of vaccines is a Ministry of Health priority to protect future generations of Jordanians and has a positive impact in the short and long term to establish a strong and healthy community," Jabir told the ceremony at the Jubieha health center.

He said that Jordan has a strong and well-established health system that has eliminated many deadly diseases and is pursuing the vaccination program along with other programs to provide a distinguished service to citizens.

Director of the communicable diseases department in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Hadeel al-Sayeh, told Petra that the HepA vaccine will be administered to all children residing in the Kingdom regardless of nationality, noting that the vaccine is given to children under 6 at an annual cost of JD3 million.

She explained that the vaccine is given in two doses within a six-month interval in the first year of age and is effective in 94 percent of cases.
