Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Prime Minister, Omar Razzaz, inspected on Wednesday, the construction site of a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) station in Sports City Circle area in the capital.

During the inspection tour, Razzaz listened to a briefing from the Mayor of Amman, Youssef Shawarba, on the progress made and the percentage of achievement in this "vital and important" project that will serve the modern public transportation system, and contribute to alleviating the traffic congestion.

Shawarba said the project will ensure the provision of public transport, deemed appropriate to the citizen, in terms of bus specifications or fixed bus schedules at passenger terminals.

During the Covid-19 pandemic period, the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) has continued operations benefiting from the decrease in the vehicle movement to intensify work in the BRT's infrastructure projects, as achievement rates hiked, hitting in some BRT stations and traffic intersections to 97 percent.

On this site, he said the completion percentage at the Sports City Circle area's station hits about 83 percent.
In turn, Razzaz stressed the need to accelerate the pace of work and completion in the project's construction and infrastructure sites in accordance with the timetable set for this purpose.

In press statements, Razzaz praised the GAM cadres' efforts to work to finish construction of traffic intersections according to the specified schedule.

Razzaz pointed to harnessing the "force majeure conditions" during the Covid-19 crisis by working to build traffic intersections around the clock, adding these intersections will be open before the end of 2020.
Razzaz said: "These are not bridges projects, but rather a solution to traffic issues that the citizen has suffered for years, especially in this road that causes many traffic crises that affect the citizen's ability to arrive at the appropriate time."

Continuing:" We are making a qualitative shift in the public transport system forward," underlining the difficulties during the construction phase, seen in the ensuing traffic crisis.

Speaking in a discussion with workers in the construction site, Razzaz praised their efforts, adding the construction sector provides job opportunities for young people, and is an " important industry" and an essential part of our economy.

The construction sector, he said, will be a main employer for youth during the coming period.
Urging youth to work in this sector, he cited " a good revenue and job security" as the main appealing factors to join the construction industry.

On addressing the pandemic, he expressed confidence in countering the Covid-19 crisis, and achieve better infrastructure, transportation, and work opportunities for all.
