King meets delegation from US House of Representatives

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II received on Sunday a delegation from the U.S. House of Representatives, headed by MP Darrell Issa, during which he reviewed the strategic partnership between Jordan and the United States and the current situation in the region.

During the meeting, which was attended by His Royal Highness Prince Faisal Bin Al Hussein, King Abdullah expressed Jordan's appreciation for the support provided by the United States to a number of development programs, and to help alleviate the burdens caused by the regional crises. He also praised the important role of the US Congress in this regard.

The meeting also dealt with developments in the Palestinian arena following the transfer of the US Embassy to Jerusalem .

In this regard, His Majesty stressed the need to reach a just and comprehensive peace in the region that enables the Palestinian people to realize their legitimate aspirations to establish an independent Palestinian state along the lines of June 4, 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He said that the issue of Jerusalem should be settled within the final status issue on the basis of the two-state solution.

His Majesty expressed Jordan's condemnation and rejection of the escalation and violence practiced by Israel against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

The meeting also dealt with the Syrian crisis where His Majesty affirmed Jordan's support for all efforts aimed at finding a political solution to this crisis within the Geneva process and the importance of preserving the de-escalation zone in southwest Syria, that was reached last year after the tripartite agreement between Jordan, the United States and Russia.

The head and members of the delegation expressed their appreciation for Jordan's pivotal role, under His Majesty's leadership, in dealing with various regional issues and the King's efforts to achieve peace and enhance security and stability in the region.

The meeting was attended by His Majesty's advisor, and the director of His Majesty's Office.
