Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on Thursday passed a resolution on Occupied Jerusalem, which was presented by Jordan, reiterating all gains made by Jordan over the past three years.

The resolution came in the frame of the intensive Jordanian diplomatic efforts to defend Jerusalem and its holy shrines and to confront any Israeli violation against the holy city.

The resolution, the draft of which was prepared by the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs, and presented by the Jordanian mission to UNESCO in coordination with the Palestinian mission, affirms that the Al Masjid Al Aqsa/ Al Haram Al Sharif are synonyms of the same meaning.

Noteworthy that the Israeli authorities tried to differentiate between the two terms to consider the Muslims' holy place is the Al Aqsa Mosque only.

The resolution affirmed that Bab Al Magharbah Gate hill is part and parcel of the Al Aqsa Mosque and urged Israel, as the occupation power, not to hinder the Hashemite reconstruction projects at the holy shrine. It also urged Israel to reopen Al Rahma (Mercy) Gate, which was closed since 2003, to Muslims.

The resolution also reiterated the historic status quo at the Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sharif, while condemning the continuous breaking into the mosque by Israeli settlers.

Meanwhile, the resolution condemned a number of Israeli projects that aim to change the identity of the old town and the status quo there.
