Ammon News - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi met with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in London on Friday.
The two leaders engaged in detailed discussions on collaborating to prevent the risky rise in the area, halting Israeli attacks on Gaza and Lebanon, ensuring consistent delivery of humanitarian aid, and fully enforcing Security Council Resolution 1701.
The meeting focused on the imperative to halt the risky Israeli escalation in the West Bank, as well as the shared commitment to enhance the firm and robust strategic relations between the two allied nations across different sectors.
A US State Department official stated that Secretary of State Anthony Blinken will convene in London on Friday with his Jordanian and Emirati counterparts as well as the caretaker Prime Minister of Lebanon.
Discussions with Jordanian Minister Ayman Safadi and Emirati Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed are expected to center on supporting future plans in Gaza for stability, security, and reconstruction.
Blinken will meet with Lebanon's acting Prime Minister Najib Mikati to discuss Israel's military offensive against Hezbollah, which has caused significant civilian casualties in Lebanon and has been a key topic in Blinken's discussions during his visit to the Middle East.
During a press conference on Thursday, Blinken emphasized that Israel's actions along the Lebanon border are aimed at protecting itself and its citizens, but should not result in a prolonged military campaign.
He added that Israel must ensure civilian safety and protect UN peacekeepers and the Lebanese Armed Forces.
"Currently, we are putting in a lot of effort to achieve a diplomatic resolution that involves the complete enforcement of UN Security Council Resolution 1701. This will enable residents on both sides of the border to go back to their homes and live there peacefully and securely," he added.
The US Secretary of State's itinerary includes Israel, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, with London being the anticipated final destination.
The main objective of the journey was to advance initiatives to secure the freedom of prisoners and a cessation of hostilities in Gaza after the killing of Yahya Sinwar. Blinken and his Qatari counterpart have announced that negotiations will resume this week, showing some progress, but there is little hope for a breakthrough before the US presidential election.
