Qatayef Ramadan dessert prices floated

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The price of Qatayef, a favorite Ramadan season dessert, will be floated during the holy month of Ramadan based on location and bakery recipes.

Head of the Restaurants and Sweets Shops Owners' Association, Omar Awwad, told Ammon News that the prices of Qatayef will be floated because the product is "seasonal."

He noted that the decision to float the prices came in coordination with the Bakeries' Owners' Association, considering that each bakery has its own recipe and ingredients, which makes it difficult to regulate prices.

"We cannot regulate the prices of Qatayef because this product depends on supply, demand, and competition," Awwad told Ammon News on Monday.

Awwad noted however that a kilo of Qatayef will range between JD 1.10 - 1.20 depending on the area, an increase from last year's prices, which reached a maximum of JD 1.10 per kilo.

He added that the maximum price per kilo for lower-income districts was set at JD 1.00 because of the increased demand during the month of Ramadan.

Qatayef is considered a favorite dessert for many during the month of Ramadan. The pancake-like pastry is usually stuffed with sweet cheese or nuts, and dipped in sugary syrup often eaten after the fast-breaking meal following sunset when Muslims break their fast.
