Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Crowds of Jordanians on Monday took part in the funeral of Jordan's government spokesperson for Syrian refugee affairs Anmar Hmoud, who died late on Sunday in a tragic car accident in the northern Badia/Rweished region.

Hmoud's funeral was held in the city of Salt, northwest of Amman, and his body was laid to rest at Al 'Ezariyyah cemetery, located in his hometown in Al 'Ezariyyah.

Prince Hamzah bin al-Hussein took part in the funeral, expressing to Hmoud's family the condolences of King Abdullah II, who is currently on a visit to the United States.

Several Jordanian statesmen took part in the funeral, including Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour, Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh, Senate President Taher al-Masri, and a number of current and former prime ministers and politicians.

Hmoud, a veteran Jordanian diplomat and state official, was killed in a car accident that occurred late on Sunday night, and three passengers with him in the vehicle were injured.

Initial reports disclosed that two of the passengers injured are UN staff, one British and another Australian national, and the third was the Jordanian driver of the vehicle.

The medical conditions of the three passengers range between stable and critical, a police source said late on Sunday.

Hmoud was named spokesperson for Syrian refugee camps affairs in Jordan in August 2012 by former Prime Minister Fayez Tarawneh.

He was known for being very resourceful and cooperative with officials and journalists amid the continued daily influx of Syrian refugees into Jordan, who reached over 530,000, the affairs of which Hmoud oversaw on a daily basis.

Hmoud previously served in Jordan's General Intelligence Department, and later served as Jordan's ambassador to China and Lebanon.

He is survived by his wife and three children, two girls and a boy, and scores of Jordanians who mourned his death and commemorated his service to the country.
