Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - An online campaign was launched on social media websites calling on the Jordanian government to dismantle the State Security Court (SSC), Jordan's military tribunal that tries cases related to national security, terrorism, narcotics, and state economic crimes.
Despite its military nature, SSC tries civil cases related to "national security," often convening on cases related to pro-reform activism under anti-regime charges.
A statement by youth activists from the Islamist movement said on Saturday that thousands of Jordanians are taking part in the campaign using social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
The online campaign, according to activists, comes ahead of planned protests and demonstrations calling for dismantling the "illegal court," according to their expression.
Several pro-reform populist movements announced taking part in the campaign, including Jordan's Muslim Brotherhood movement, the Populist Assembly for Reform, Irbid Herak Coalition, islamist Youth movement, the Jordan Teachers' Association, members of the Jordan Bar Association, in addition to the Dhiban and Karak populist pro-reform movements.
