Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Dozens of Jordanian women and their children protested in front of the parliament building on Sunday morning calling for eligibility to gain Jordanian citizenship for their non-Jordanian children.

The protest was organized under the banner ’Woman is a Value not a Number', and demanded to add 'Gender' in the constitution’s 6th article, ‘Jordanians shall be equal before the law. There shall be no discrimination between them as regards to their rights and duties on grounds of race, language or religion’.

The protesters demanded citizenship rights for their husbands and children.

The women decided to protest in front of the parliament after multiple efforts and demonstrations in front of the Prime Ministry which have been continuously disregarded.

Earlier the Royal Committee for Constitution Review Amendments has not recommended the addition of the phrase 'gender' to the first paragraph of the sixth article in the suggested amendments.
