Activities of Jordan Festival 2010 announced

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Friends of Jordan Festivals officially announced the launch of the Festival’s activities for this summer, in cooperation with the organizers of the Beiteddine Festival.

During the press conference held on 17 May 2010, at Zara Expo, the organizers unveiled the program of the festival which will take place this summer in Jordan with artistic and cultural Jordanian, Arab and International artists.

Officials of The Friends of Jordan Festivals declared that activities will kick off on June 30th to August 30th 2010 in Jabal Al Qal’aa (the Citadel), with ticket prices starting from 10 JOD.

Chairman of the festival, Issam Salfiti, said: “Jordan Festival 2010 is more than an artistic event for us, it is a true reflection of the rich cultural dimension that Jordan enjoys and which we are proud of. The twinning with the Lebanese renowned Beiteddine Festival, is a step towards sharing experiences, building capacities, promoting local talents, cutting costs and networking with International artists and festivals; thus reaffirming Jordan as a cultural and tourist destination”.

One of the highlights of Jordan Festival this year is the opening night with a tribute to 'kawkab el Sharq' Oum Koulsoum with the Egyptian Diva Amal Maher and Salim Sahhab's orchestra. An evening to remember is a concert by Kathem Al Saher who will pay homage to the famous poet, Nizar Qabbani, through a musical concert titled “Greetings to Nizar Qabbani”. Al Saher will dedicate most of the concert’s songs to Qabbani’s poems. There will also be participations by Pink Martini, Il Divo, Rafael Amargo, the Syrian jazz band “Itar Shame'”, Palestine Youth Orchestra, Shaolin Monks, Khoury Brothers, Makadi Nahhas, Amal Maher, Whirling Derwishes Dede, and Farida and the Iraqi Maqams, in addition to the Jordanian Night presented by Jadal, Humam Ammari, Salam Hmoud, Aziz Maraqa & Stand up comedians.

It is worth noting that the Friends of the Jordan Festivals is a non-profit organization founded in March 2010, by a group of businessmen and businesswomen, leaders in the private sector; motivated by their love and loyalty to their country, and their admiration of the culture and the arts. The NGO aims at promoting Jordan as a cultural destination being the only open air museum in the world, rich in history, rich in heritage and rich in culture. - Al Bawaba
