Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The administration of Muwaqqar Prison on Friday morning prevented a delegation from the "Higher Executive Anti-Normalization and Protection of Homeland Committee" from visiting ex-soldier Ahmad Daqamseh, citing that Daqamseh has been deprived of visitation rights for one week for committing a violation during his transfer from Um Al Lulu Prison to Muwaqqar Prison nearly two weeks ago.

Vice President of the Anti-Normalization Committee, Maysara Malas, called on prison authorities in a press statement on Saturday to end the mistreatment of Daqamseh, who has been avoiding being transferred to the hospital because of the "ill-treatment" he experiences from prison guards.

Daqamseh suffers from several illnesses including high blood pressure, diabetes, and increased heart rate.

Daqamseh had previously expressed that he is being mistreated at Um Al Lulu prison, and asked to be transferred to another prison. He claimed in statements that the prison administration threatened to transfer him to a prison that is "far enough so that no one would visit him."

Daqamseh was transferred to Muwaqqar Correctional and Rehabilitation Center, which is over 165 kilometers away from his family's place of residence, in addition to the difficulty of finding transportation there.

His brother noted that Daqamseh had requested to meet with the Chief of the Public Security Directorate (PSD) to explain his conditions at the prison and to ask to be transferred to Gafgafa prison in Jerash, which is close to his family's residence.

The brother noted that Daqamseh still did not learn whether his request to meet the PSD chief has been forwarded.

Malas called on the government to release Daqamseh, who is serving a life sentence and has 5 years left, "especially after all the threats the Zionist entity is constituting to the security and stability of Jordan."

"At least, until he is released, Daqamseh should be treated in accordance with the at least the minimum international conventions and standards for the treatment of detainees."

Daqamseh is serving a life sentence for the March 13, 1997 killing of seven Israeli schoolgirls in the Baqoura area on the Jordanian-Israeli border.

The soldier, CPL Ahmed Daqamseh 26 then, was charged with the "Premeditated" murder of the Israelis, who were shot to death during an outing on the Naharayim island on the Jordan River.

The court convicted him of "intentional murder of several people”, and he was demoted from corporal to private and dishonorably discharged from the military. The tribunal however said in its ruling that Daqamseh was not convicted of premeditated murder because he was suffering from an anti-social mental disorder that made him unable to control himself and prevented him from realizing the outcome of his actions.
