Jordanian Nuclear Program meeting at PM, caution of media coverage

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - A meeting took place at the Prime Ministry on Monday headed by Prime Minister Samir Rifai who met with a group of experts in the nuclear energy sector, 'Ammon News' learned.

The one-and-a-half hour meeting discussed the Jordanian nuclear energy program and details of the agreements and negotiations Jordan is conducting with regional and international entities regarding the Jordanian nuclear power plant planned to be built soon to provide energy, water desalinization, and other peaceful purposes, in a effort to alleviate the costs of importing energy resources.

Jordan imports an average of 96 percent of its energy required for domestic consumption.

Those in attendance stressed the need to move forward with the Jordanian nuclear project, but noted the need to be "careful and cautious" in dealing with media outlets and avoid issuing statements that may influence the progress of the program.
